The Dozen

My Top Twelve Vacations

12. New Hampshire- When I was very young my family took a trip to New Hampshire and visited Santa’s Village every year. You might ask why a Christmas-themed village would be amusing, however, back then my sisters and I thought that it was one of the most entertaining places we had ever witnessed. From the talking reindeer, to the elves, and Santa, we never could get enough. For that reason, we would anxiously await until the next year to return to our favorite little village.
11. Hershey Park, Pennsylvania- I remember when we went to Hershey Park. It was a big deal for me because it was my first long car ride. My family went with another family, although, both of the moms refused to come because they were both afraid of rollercoasters. We spent three days going to Hershey Park and we went on every single ride there, multiple times. This was very enjoyable for me because I absolutely love roller coasters and chocolate, so it was a combination to die for!
10. Mt. Washington- Three summers in a row I have hiked up Mt. Washington with my friends. Even though to most this might not seem like a vacation, to me it was. The first time I was invited to hike up the mountain I was skeptical that I would be able to hike up without electricity and makeup. To my surprise, once I went, I found out how truly fun it was and how rewarding it was once I made it to the top. When my friend asked me to go again, I said yes right away without even thinking. Now I hope we go again this summer because it truly was an adventure for me.
9. Newport, RI- Our friends own a house in Newport, Rhode Island and they invited my family and two other families to travel down one summer. This vacation was memorable because we tried to fit about twenty people in a pretty small house. Not only was that fun to watch but the amount of space we took up on the beach was funny too. I liked this vacation because I was with so many kids that we always had something to do and we were always busy.
8. Disney World- Three years in a row my family traveled to Disney World when my sisters and I were younger. The first time we went I celebrated my fifth birthday there and I thought it was the coolest thing. I loved seeing all the princesses and Mickey and Minnie Mouse. This is a very memorable vacation because it was my first vacation that I took where I rode on an airplane. Even though I was very young when my family went, I will never forget this vacation, and will always treasure the memories made there.
7. Orlando, Florida- Many years ago my family went to Orlando Florida. We stayed in a hotel right across the street from Universal Studios. Since I am a big fanatic of roller coasters, I enjoyed myself on all the rides there. One of my preferred roller coasters was the gigantic, mean, green Hulk rollercoaster. The thrill of being on the ride was like nothing I had ever experienced before. From the wind in my hair, to being tossed from side to side, and having my stomach drop, I couldn’t resist from going back for more each time it ended. All in all this was a fantastic vacation full of adventure and roller coasters.
6. Cape Cod- Every summer my family goes down to our cottage down the Cape. I love the Cape in the summer because it lets me escape to what feels like a different world from the world back home. My cottage is in a community where everyone knows everyone, and so it has a very homey feel to it. I have friends down the Cape who are very fun to be with and it is nice to see them every summer. We enjoy our lazy summer days on the beach and nights at The Market Place, which is a place in our neighborhood which we enjoy traveling to every night, for ice cream, pizza and candy. This is not the healthiest food to eat, except it’s the summer and no one really minds.
5. Clearwater, Florida- Once my family bought a condo down in Florida, we have been too many times to count. From our house we can see Tampa Bay and the striking Gulf of Mexico. Our beach across the street is very private and peaceful, and sometimes we go to the hotels and use their pools, because we like the change of scenery from our pool and the adventure. Every time we go we get to ride jet skis. When I ride on the jet skis it is very exhilarating because I love speed and I get so much satisfaction from driving as fast as I can go, and from fact that I scare my mom half to death. I love traveling down to Florida because every time we go it never gets old.
4. Bermuda- When I was in third grade my family took a cruise to Bermuda. Not only was Bermuda gorgeous with its vibrant-colored houses and pink-sanded beaches, but the cruise to it was also amusing. This was my first and only cruise; nevertheless everything about it was unforgettable. From being able to swim on deck, to the children’s club where I made many friends, I never got bored. This trip was full of new exciting adventures and things I never experienced before. The only thing that wasn’t so great was the sea sickness that many people on the ship got.
3. Road Trip to Florida- Last April vacation, my mom, her friend, and my three best friends took a road trip down to Florida. This was a daring vacation because only one of the six of us had done it before. It was a long, tiring trip, and the worst part of it was having to stay in a scary hotel in North Carolina. In the end it was worth it because we finally made it to Florida and I was with my three best friends. We enjoyed ourselves very much and had a lot of laughs along the way. We went parasailing, and that was a first for all of us. This made extremely hilarious memories for me and my friends, but once we had to leave we weren’t very thrilled because not only were we leaving Florida behind, but we also had a long ride ahead of us to get home.
2. Aruba- My family and I just got back from this trip about a week ago. This vacation was one of the most relaxing trips I have ever taken. Since we went right after finals, it was nice not to worry about school, homework, or reality. During the day we spent our time laying out soaking up the sun, and sipping virgin piña coladas. We swam in the calm, bright blue waters of the Caribbean, and floated in the pool of our hotel. At night we spent time going to restaurants and exploring the island (not that there was much to explore; the island is very small). Aruba was a very fun vacation where all my stress disappeared, until I had to return to reality. But I still held the wonderful memories of the trip and a sun burn, which reminded me of all the fun I had on my second favorite vacation.
1. The Bahamas- When my family and I traveled to the Bahamas about a year ago, I never expected how much I would truly enjoy myself on the trip. We stayed in the Atlantis resort, which was a very creative and unique hotel. The luminescent, dazzling aqua and green water and the private beach we went to was a main point of my enjoyment. Not only was this a calming vacation, but it was also filled with adventure, too. The slides and water rides kicked up the excitement of the trip and made it truly electrifying. We also got to go snorkeling, and even though I am scared of fish, I ended up really having the time of my life. Some day I hope to go back and once again experience what made this my favorite place in the whole entire world.
